Turns out football pitches aren’t big enough anymore. In India, Lionel Messi is officially going XXL.
Yes, you read that right: Messi now has a giant statue in India. This Saturday, La Pulga will inaugurate a 21-meter-tall monument in his image in Kolkata. According to local authorities, it’s simply the tallest Messi statue on the planet. Modest.
Built in just forty days by the Sree Bhumi Sporting Club, the statue shows Messi lifting the World Cup — because of course it does. The unveiling will also kick off the “GOAT Tour”, a three-day celebration where the world champion will tour several major Indian cities.
Messi, living Legend in India
In West Bengal and nearby Bangladesh, Messi isn’t just a footballer — he’s basically a living legend. Alongside the statue, a mural and plenty of events are planned. At this rate, the next step might be a holiday named after him.
