Ryanair Turbulence: Flight Attendant Fired… on Her Day Off

Another scandal is shaking Ryanair. A flight attendant based in Charleroi has been fired after refusing to work on a scheduled day off, according to La Libre. While the airline insists everything was done by the book, the CNE union claims this dismissal violates key European air-safety rules.

A Surprise Call — Then a Lightning-Fast Dismissal

It all started on October 5: the crew member was suddenly asked to operate a flight despite her roster showing a rest day. Four days later, she was sacked for “serious misconduct.” The union says internal messages between her and the scheduling team were “contradictory” and reveal troubling organisational issues.

She Reported Stress and Unfitness to Fly — Ryanair Didn’t Budge

The CNE stresses that assigning a flight during a mandatory rest period is strictly forbidden without proper prior notice. The attendant even warned she was under “stress” and therefore unfit to guarantee passenger safety. Ryanair, unsurprisingly, refuses to comment on individual cases but maintains it followed all legal procedures.

Union Sounds the Alarm

The union is calling on Belgian authorities — specifically the DGTA — to investigate Ryanair’s rostering practices and compliance with crew rest regulations. This comes on the heels of another controversy: three Brussels Airlines flight attendants were fired recently for refusing to fly to Ghana due to suspected bedbugs on board.
