A routine swim turned into total chaos in La Ciotat, France. A car ended up—quite literally—in the municipal swimming pool, serving shocked swimmers a scene straight out of a comedy movie, though there was nothing funny for the people inside the vehicle.
Behind the wheel was a 38-year-old mother, with her daughter in the passenger seat. According to initial reports, the driver confused the brake pedal with the accelerator. The result: the car smashed through a fence, shattered a glass wall, and executed an unexpected—and perfectly executed—dive into the main pool. An accidental but spectacular splash.
Luckily, the lifeguards on duty didn’t hesitate for a second. Faster than a 50-meter freestyle start, they jumped into the water and rescued the two occupants, quickly pulling them out of the submerged vehicle. Firefighters praised their swift reaction, helped by a bystander who also rushed to assist.
Pool Closed for Several Weeks
The mother and daughter escaped without injuries, but with quite a scare. They were taken to La Ciotat hospital in shock, mostly to recover from this unplanned session of motorized aquagym.
The immediate consequence: the pool will be closed for several weeks. Time is needed to remove the car, repair the damage, and remind everyone that diving is reserved for swimmers… not cars.
