A Calm but Curious Black Bear Takes a Surprise Tour of local Zoo

During the daily inspection of the Redwood Sky Walk, zoo staff stumbled upon an unexpected sight… a wild black bear casually roaming inside the park grounds. No need to panic: emergency protocols were activated immediately, and the team quickly took control of the situation.

It turned into a lively morning at Sequoia Park Zoo! The bear, showing no aggression at all, was spotted quietly observing other bears — Tule, Ishŭng and Nabu — through the habitat fencing. At no point did the wild visitor enter any animal enclosure. After sniffing around a few enrichment items near the night house, he was gently guided back into the forest through a service gate.

In short, he was a very polite guest. He stayed on the designated path, didn’t climb anything and politely kept all four paws on the ground.

The perimeter fences separating the zoo from Sequoia Park are intact, and it remains unclear how the bear managed to get in. Zoo staff will continue monitoring the situation. As a reminder, wild bears and other animals naturally live in the area — so visitors are encouraged to enjoy wildlife responsibly: keep your distance, stay on marked trails and always be aware of your surroundings.
