The Pentagon has released a new batch of declassified documents related to unidentified aerial phenomena (UAPs), more commonly known as UFOs. Covering the period from 1949 to 2026, the archives include witness accounts, videos, and reports from agencies such as the CIA, FBI, and NASA.

Among the most striking revelations are several reports describing mysterious “luminous orbs” seen in the skies over the United States. One case involves two red spheres filmed in 2025 that reportedly merged together before disappearing. Another file details federal agents observing “orbs releasing other orbs” near a sensitive site in the western United States.

Cases That Remain Unexplained

The documents also reference a strange object described by several military personnel as a shiny, asymmetrical “potato-shaped” craft spotted over the mountains of Colorado. Investigators favored an explanation involving unusual light reflections, but were unable to reach a definitive conclusion.

The newly released archives reveal that the United States and the Soviet Union were already discussing UFO reports during the Cold War. A 1967 report shows that Soviet scientists were sometimes skeptical but also intrigued by certain sightings.

Finally, CIA documents from the 1950s indicate that the agency did not consider UFOs a direct threat to U.S. national security. Instead, officials believed the greatest danger came from public fascination with the phenomenon and the risk of mass hysteria fueled by rumors and media coverage. Decades later, several of these cases remain officially unresolved, continuing to fuel speculation about what may be hiding in the skies.
